A 2 hour drive from Te Anau will take you to Milford Sound, one of the South Islands wonders, boasting majestic scenery and wildlife. As you near Milford Sound you will pass through the Homer Tunnel. While you wait to pass through, expect to be entertained by the local Kea birds.

Upon arrival, you have a choice of cruise boats, large and small, which take you on an approximate 2hr tour around the Sounds and out to the mouth of the open sea.

So far our choice has been in favour of the smaller boat, this time travelling with Cruise Milford who were fabulous. The skipper had a great sense of humour and his assistant spent the whole journey informing passengers of the surroundings.

Just a tip to remember, make sure you pack insect repellant as the sandflies are rather partial to humans!
